Shot Put World Champion Tom Walsh Talks About Athletic Performance
Preparing After Failure
One of the keys to success is making mistakes. One of the keys to failure is making the same mistakes over and over. Coaches and athletes should not be afraid to fail, but if something does not go well, learn from it, and make adjustments for next time.
Failure is part of athletics and should be embraced. Failure allows an athlete and coach to reflect on an experience and develop strategies for future opportunities. Do not make excuses; plan for the next success.
When an athlete struggles, the coach and athlete need to work together to correct the problems. They revise the training plan, rather than dwell on a bad practice or a poor performance.
